Unveiling Baltimore's Exciting Development Projects

Baltimore, Maryland is a vibrant city with plenty of exciting projects in the works. From a $150 million renovation of the Royal Farms Arena to the potential construction of a soccer stadium, there's something for everyone in the city. Let's take a closer look at some of the projects that are being planned for Baltimore.

Royal Farms Arena Renovation

The Royal Farms Arena, the city's largest indoor sports and entertainment venue, is undergoing a massive $150 million renovation. The new facilities will include remodeled lobbies, 30 to 40 new suites, improved discounts, a stunning glass exterior and additional seating to accommodate up to 15,000 guests.

The arena is just a 6-minute drive from the convention center and a 20-minute water taxi ride from the inner harbor.

Walbrook Junction Shopping Center

The Walbrook Junction shopping center in west Baltimore has caught the attention of Lyneir Richardson, a Chicago-based real estate investor. Richardson plans to revamp this site near the Coppin State University campus. Helping Up Mission, now a non-profit organization in the area, has become a potential buyer with plans to create an “urban green space” on the site.

Compass Project

The Compass project was not mentioned at all during the Downtown Partnership annual meeting in September. Workshop, along with other partners, has plans to construct 165 apartments in place of Shofer's old furniture warehouse in the 800 block of Leadenhall Street, and 183 apartments on 1300 Bank Street in East Baltimore.

Soccer Stadium

A possible new addition to the Baltimore Peninsula project is a soccer stadium with a capacity of 10,000 people.

This is the subject of a feasibility study conducted by the Maryland Stadium Authority.

Red Line Light Rail Route

Maryland's governor-elect, Wes Moore, spoke of reactivating planning for the Red Line light rail route that would have linked East Baltimore with West Baltimore. This project was destroyed by Governor Larry Hogan. If all of these projects are completed, Baltimore will be an even more vibrant and exciting city than it already is. With so many projects in the pipeline for downtown Baltimore, it's clear that this city is on its way to becoming an even more attractive destination for visitors and locals alike.
